EDHI WAS ACTIVELY RESCUING THE INJURED.

I APPEAL TO YOU, TO DONATE RASHAN AND WATER/MILK SUPPLIES AT THESE CAMPS. THEY ARE BECOMING ANIMALS. PLEASE DONT LET THIS HAPPEN TO OUR PEOPLE.

This is where your help went

"Friends yesterday we finally distributed the supplies & the people were so happy... one man said " No one helped us the way your organization & the Moulvis (Talibans) helped" This statement raises a question, what the Govt. is doing? if they don't step in & help the masses the people will fall into the hands of extremist lobby. This is the time to act & win the hearts" ~ Tariq Rahim ( Relief Worker in Pakistan

How You Can Help - A list of organisations in Australia where you can donate your funds

This link is for those of you who prefer to send funds through registered aid agencies in Australia. While the other agencies are doing a great job, out of the agencies listed Edhi Trust is the most trusted local organisation with a country wide network that has come forward to assist in any emergency situation no matter how big all small.

Pakistan Floods Relief Efforts.............................Update 2

With the support of a few gracious friends and my family we have been able to collect $2010 within the short span of a few days. I am truly indebted to you all for supporting my personal initiative and trusting me with your contributions.

You will be happy to know that $1700 have already been sent off to relief workers and utilised to purchase relief goods. With your support we are able to reach out to families in different flood affected areas. These include villages in Punjab, Khyber PakhtoonKhawah and Sindh. Every dollar you send is being directly transferred in the hands of reliable relief workers who are doing a great job in these challenging times.

Please bear in mind that the real challenge of settling the 20 million displaced persons has just begun. The floods have now reached the Southern parts of Pakistan caushing more havoc and pain.

Your continued support is required to motivate others to join in this cause for humanity. It does not matter if someone donates $5 or $50, every little amount counts.

Please come forward to donate generously for this cause.

Sincerely,

Shaista Khan

The floods

Pakistan is being devastated by the worst floods in its history. At least 1600 people have been killed, and about 15 million directly affected. The images on the television news are scarifying. This massive disaster doesn’t rate a mention before page 11 of today’s Sydney Morning Herald. I couldn’t see anything in the Herald about how to help.Where are the fund raisers? Where’s the emergency number we can phone to donate? We rallied to the aid of the United States, for goodness sake, the richest nation on earth, after the comparatively minor floods in New Orleans! Are we so distracted by the most dispiriting Australian election campaign in living memory, or is it that the people affected this time are largely Muslim?

UNICEF may not be getting much airplay, but they are on the job:

UNICEF is urgently calling for US$10.3 million to support initial relief efforts in the region to provide emergency healthcare, water and sanitation and child protection to those who need it most.

You can donate online to UNICEF Australia’s Pakistan Flood Children’s Appeal or call 1300 884 233.

Later: I hadn’t donated when Shaista’s comment arrived. She changed my mind about UNICEF, as she’s probably right that they have to go through the unreliable channel of the Pakistani government. Instead I donated to Oxfam Australia’s Pakistan Floods Appeal, We donate to Oxfam regularly and I’ve got confidence in them as an aid and community development organisation.

Message from Relief Worker

Here is a short update from the relief worker in Pakistan in response to my query. The $1500 collected with your help has already been sent.

The biggest challenge at this stage is looking after the thousands of displaced families who have been left homeless after the severe floods. The death toll is more than 1600, but according to the UN overall 14 million people have been affected.

I hope you will keep this cause in your thoughts and continue to support the people in Pakistan. Please continue to spread this message and send your donations.

Re: Hi
"hello Shaista

As already said we are at the fund collecting stage. so far I have received 120,000 Rs and will add another 100,000 from my own pocket. this amount will enable us to provide 11 relief packages as posted on my profile i.e. tent, food items, utensils, gas cylinder and other supplies (please see the brochure I have designed) . I will be going to Nowshera day after tomorrow to see and cross check the 40 families identified by our partner there and then will deliver the supplies for 11 families in the next two days.

This is what we have collected so far and hope our friends will send in more donations so we may reach other families as well."

Regards

I hope that with your support and co-operation, we shall be able to multiply the relief packages for the affected families.

Some friends have shown interest in sending relief goods from Australia. This can only be possible if we get donations for items like plastic mats, tents, basic medicines, utensils, clothes etc. More so, the cost of transportation does not make it feasible unless someone can arrange to get concession/donation from an international courier company.

The relief workers have also requested for donation of Aqua tabs. These are water purifying tablets. There is a big shortage of clean drinking water, hence these tablets are vital for preventing breakout of water borne disesaes like cholera. a few cases have already been reported in the media.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts on the above information. Your valuable advice will help to keep the cause alive.

Sincere Regards,

Shaista Khan

Relief Workers wait for funds

I am coordinating with two teams of relief workers. RH-Aid is a not for profit organisation that is helping the displaced flood affectees through its dedicated team. They are organising food, shelter and medical camps for the people onsite.

Although people are doing what they can, the scale of devastation is too huge.
I am collecting funds from personal and professional contacts in Australia and transferring to the aid workers.

Another aid worker is a concenrned Pakistani citizen. Mr. Salam is a printer by profession with a big heart. He has closed down his business in Karachi and has travelled to the flood affected areas to handover relief goods himself. These people are very busy dealing with real life and death situation on the ground. The following relief goods are being arranged on an urgent basis.

RH-Aid is also working towards building safe shelter homes for the displaced families.

Please share this information with your friends and family and help ease the sufferings of these poor people ravaged by the vicious floods. Thank you.

Appeal to help flood affectees in Pakistan

The recent floods in Pakistan have caused mass destruction. So far, over 1,600 people have been killed, several villages uprooted and crops destroyed. The United Nations says up to 5 million people have now been affected by massive floods in Pakistan. Emergency crews are trying to evacuate up to 500,000 people from low-lying villages in the southern provinces of Sindh and Punjab. Bad weather has hampered rescue efforts in the north-west of Pakistan.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA).
" We have 27,337 people stranded at various places and rescuers are trying to evacuate them," UNOCHA official Nicki Bennett said.
Associated Press reports: More rain soaked flood-ravaged Pakistan on Saturday and even heavier downpours were forecast for coming days. Pakistani officials estimate as many as 13 million people throughout the South Asian nation have been affected by the rising waters. About 1,500 people have died, most of them in the northwest, the hardest-hit region. Mass evacuations are under way in the southern province of Sindh after the Indus River rose there.
The intense flooding that began about two weeks ago has washed away roads, bridges and many communications lines, hampering rescue efforts. Incessant monsoon rains have grounded many helicopters trying to rescue people and ferry aid, including six choppers manned by U.S. troops on loan from Afghanistan.
For more information, see links below;

I would like to appeal to everyone to generously donate funds for the flood affectees. I am personally liaising with relief workers working in the affected areas and collecting funds. Please join me in this worthy cause by spreading the message to your own network of family and friends. It does not matter whether you contribute $5 or $50, every little amount counts.

Since, this is a personal initiative, I will not be able to give any receipts. This is the reason I am approaching only people I know personally or friends of friends. I hope that you will help me in this cause. Please get in touch with me if you wish to make any donations.
